remote online notarization

The process of Remote Online Notarization is fairly new, and slightly different from a face-to-face notarization. The process involves all signing parties to be present via tele-video conferencing. I utilize the Signix platform to complete each notarization (and zoom). Requirements to complete a Remote Online Notarization are:

   1. First, please provide me with a copy of the filled-out document(s) (unsigned) that you wish to have notarized, along with a copy of photo identification that you wish to prove your identity with (U.S. Drivers License, or U.S. Passport). Email all PDF's to me at: megansmobilenotaryservices@gmail.com

   2. Confirm appointment time, and cost via email.

  3. Have the capability to televideo conference via a Zoom conference call (via computer or tablet with microphone and camera) Smart phones do not work well with this process.

  4. Present a Valid Government-Issued Identification Document during the Zoom conference call (copies of identification DO NOT work, you will need the original photo ID with you during the zoom call). (NEW: Due to Minnesota's new rules, an expired ID does work as long as its expired no earlier than March 2020)

  5. Confirm questions related to identity via a third-party provider

Identity questions relate to the signer, questions range from addresses where      you've lived, types of credit accounts you've had in the past and current, hospitals near your address, and other streets within the neighborhood you've lived in. These questions are timed at 2 minutes, and you must pass with 4/5 questions correct to proceed to sign. This is a Minnesota requirement for a remote notarization.

Additional Info Related to KBA Questions:

Signers typically fail KBA (Knowledge Based Authentication) due to...

-An expired I.D. (if your Identification has expired since the COVID-19 pandemic, or if your I.D. doesn't have an expiration date (seniors I.D.), we can work around this

-Your I.D. upload is blurry, out of focus, has a shadow, or too much glare, upside down, or in portrait (instead of landscape)

-Your I.D. was not issued in the United States

-The signer's name does not match the I.D. (If you've recently changed your name legally, you may not be eligible for Remote Online Notarization)

-The signer's address on the I.D. does not match public records (you've recently moved but haven't updated your address on your I.D.)

-You must have established yourself with public records (meaning, young adults may not be eligible for remote online notarization as some of the KBA questions relate to credit accounts)

6. Complete the notarization by clicking to sign, then receive a tamper-proof copy via email.

**Please note, according to Minnesota Statute 358.645 I am authorized to perform notarial acts for anyone within the U.S., U.S. Virgin Islands, or District of Columbia. Additionally, if you have a transaction that relates to the U.S., I am authorized to perform those notarization's also.
